My first encounter as a NYC Plastic Surgeon with the concept of buttock augmentation with buttock implants was during a trip to Peru in the spring of 1997. I was participating in an illustrious international plastic surgery exchange focusing on aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. In South America the aesthetic ideal is somewhat different than it is here in the United States. In South America the buttocks are the focal point of sensuality. I discovered that plastic surgeons in South America were routinely augmenting the buttocks in an attempt to meet the demands of a buttock conscience culture. It was not until years later that the buttock implants plastic surgery procedure would become popular in the United States.

Buttock augmentation (buttock implants plastic surgery) is now routinely performed in the United States by Plastic Surgeons in only a few states primarily Florida, California, and New York. The influence of the Latin community has helped to popularize the buttock augmentation with solid silicone implants plastic surgery procedure in mainstream society.
